Up to 30 students
TITLE: UNDERSTANDING ANISHINABE WAY OF LIFE
Duration: 2-3 hours (1/2 day)
Description: Using play-based, arts-based and anishinabe teaching strategies, the workshop lead provides young students an introduction to Anishinabe way of life
35-40 mins- Students gather in an open space (school gym) and participate a fun and interactive activity where they have to work together to build a storm shelter using chairs and blankets. Students learn Anishinabe principles and values related to collaboration and life skills. Students are then guided in putting everything back as it as, instilling teachings around respect and organization.
10 min- water and bathroom break
35-40 mins- Students gather around the big drum and teachings of respect, relationships and unity are further explored through drum and songs. Students also learn about dancing and are invited to circle around the drum, moving in their own style to the drum beat.

35-40 mins- For the final activity, students make a small paper craft. They are provided with small paper tikinagans (baby carriers), markers and stickers. Each student personalizes their tikinagan while learning its teachings and how it relates to important aspects of Anishinabe kinship and care principles.
